BEST Museum

The Bombay Electric Supply and Transport Undertaking or BEST as it is commonly called is the force behind the electric supply and transport in Mumbai. The transport section is the most visible, with the bright red BEST buses criss-crossing the island city, ferrying its population to their destinations. Few people know, however, of the full form of the acronym or its interesting history. Even fewer know of the museum dedicated to BEST, hidden away in one of its depots. BEST Museum at Anik Depot is open to all, though visited by few. Located on the third floor of an old building, it is not an imposing sight like other museums in the city. Inside, however, is information galore about the development of transport in the island city, from trams to buses. Visitors can see parts of trams, old photos, tickets and logos of buses that have changed over the decades. Then, there are models for children to touch and play with as well as remote-controlled buses that they can try to run! If craft is your interest then one of the permanent staff members here can even show you how to make a paper model of a BEST bus. BEST Museum needs a lot of encouragement since there are very few visitors—so go, see this museum.

Additional Information: Location: The museum is located at Anik Depot. To those unfamiliar with the place, this is right opposite IMAX Wadala.
Timings: The museum is open from 10 AM to 5 PM from Wednesday to Sunday. The museum is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
