Housing one of the world's largest collections of Southeast Asian contemporary art, the Singapore Art Museum well and truly cements Singapore's status as an international city of arts. SAM's ever-expanding collection focuses on the best of modern Singaporean and Southeast Asian art, with a growing collection of international contemporary art.
Originally a 19th century mission school, the building was remodelled in the early 1990s, with classrooms morphed into a series of intimate art spaces. In 2008, the 8Q SAM extension was opened to showcase interactive, community-oriented programming.
