The Campo Santa Margherita, located in the Dorsoduro district, is a popular square with locals and students who enjoy the many shops, cafes, restaurants and bars in the pretty and laidback square. Visiting Campo Santa Margherita is a totally different experience from some of the more touristy squares, here you can relax and enjoy the local life rather than watching the crowds of tourists. The square makes a lovely place to enjoy a drink in the sunshine with the locals and ‘people watch’, and when in Venice you must try a Venetian Spritz. This is an iconic Venetian cocktail Spritz that comprises of Aperol, white wine, sparkling water and a piece of lemon, orange, or olive to finish it off. Spritz is enjoyed by locals every afternoon or evening and is often accompanied by generous quantities of salted snacks.
With the mandatory glass of Spritz in hand, Campo Santa Margherita is the best place where you can engage with locals and since most bars operate until the early hours, you’ll have plenty of time.
