This white neo-Gothic cathedral impresses every visitor with its white 183-foot high spire. Considered to be one of the holiest sites in Christianity, it contains the remains of St Thomas, one of Jesus’ twelve apostles, who came here to preach in 52 AD. The church was constructed in the 16th century by the Portuguese, and rebuilt in its present form in 1898. Thomas is also believed to have lived at the Mount of St Thomas. You can climb up the steps of the Mount to visit the Church of Our Lady of Expectations, which was built by the Portuguese and dedicated to Jesus Christ’s mother Mary. There are also other historic structures like the Luz Church and St George’s Cathedral nearby.
