Take a tram ride around the city

With as many as eight tram lines connecting its main station and some 300 such cars running around the city, Hiroshima has one of the largest tram networks in Japan. A single ride within the city centre comes for a mere 160 Yen and it therefore is very easy to look around given how cheap and comfortable the streetcar is. You will be expected to pay before getting off and there is a machine beside the driver dedicated to the same. These trams can take you anywhere within the city centre, and in case you intend to get into the suburbs, the fare increases with the distance travelled. Hopping on and off couldn’t possibly have been more pleasant and the ride itself is thrilling especially when the city gradually zooms past, a little bit of sun here and a few splashes of rain there.
Do keep in mind that the Japan Rail Pass is not valid on these trams. You can buy a single-day pass at the train station or at major hotels by paying around 600 Yen and it will entitle you to unlimited travel across Hiroshima. Its two-day counterpart comes for 2000 Yen. For those travellers who love walking, it is possible to cover the Shukkei-en Garden and the Peace Memorial Park right up to the Hiroshima Castle on foot after exploring the rest of the city by tram.
