A lesson in modern Canadian luxuryWord to the wise: Splurge on a treatment at the in-house Willow Stream Spa, which includes use of the jacuzzi, infrared sauna and meditation pods.
Noteworthy for: The Fairmont Hotel Vancouver (900 West Georgia Street), an art deco masterpiece, may be better suited to guests who prefer more historical sleeps.
Sometimes, it's comforting to book a familiar hotel. Synonymous with Canadian luxury, home-grown hotel chain Fairmont has a whopping four properties - with over 1,000 rooms between them - in Vancouver. Overlooking the harbour, The Fairmont Pacific Rim is the chain's newest local five-star sleep.
Far from a generic business traveller haunt, The Fairmont Pacific Rim is ultra sophisticated, and far less stuffy than you'd think. Rooms - opt for ocean-view - are well-appointed, and there's a terrific rooftop pool area (kitted out with outdoor fireplaces in winter).
Perfectly located in Downtown, just a short stroll to Gastown, you don't have to go far to get anywhere from the Fairmont. But if you'd prefer to stay in, the lobby piano bar is a happening spot for pre-dinner drinks, and the organic, modern Canadian menu at in-house restaurant, Oru, tends to exceed most guests' expectations of a hotel restaurant.
