A cut above the average mall
Word to the wise: If your friends insist on coming here but you yourself loathe shopping, consider visiting Barcelona's excellent aquarium just next door.

A retail showcase built during Barcelona's Olympic seafront regeneration, Maremagnum is a shade sleeker and sharper than your average shopping centre. For starters it looks good - its entrance is like a huge upturned glass lip, while its seaside setting, surrounded by yachts bobbing around in Barcelona's marina, is one most malls can only dream of. Inside, you'll find mainly mid-priced chain stores along the lines of H&M, though with Zara's younger offshoot Bershka and local favourite Desigual both represented, there's still a noticeably Spanish feel to the selection.
Maremagnum isn't about clothes shopping alone, however. On the building's roof is the newly opened Terraza de Maremagnum, a food hall with a clutch of modishly styled, decently priced places to eat, all given a leg up out of respectable ordinariness by splendid views of the waterfront.
