Talk of the town: Due to its size, the L'Illa was known as the city's first 'Superblock'.

There’s not shortage of shopping malls in the city but L’Illa, designed by star architect Rafael Moneo, was one of the first and is still one of the best. It’s home to more than 170 shops and restaurants that reflect it’s high-end location and the focus is on fashion: Custo Barcelona, Hoss Intropia and Massimo Dutti are some of the Spanish brands on offer.
There’s also a smattering of homeware, jewellery and gift shops, a huge food hall selling everything from salted cod to suckling pig and, within the complex, a public park and a car park with a mind-boggling 2,400 spaces.
