Cutting edge contemporary artWord to the wise: If your artistic motto is "call me old-fashioned, but I know what I like", you probably won't like the frequently abstract and conceptual art on show here.
Geneva has something unusual here - a modern and contemporary art museum that actually feels genuinely contemporary. Don't come here expecting Picasso and Matisse, as the museum's collections don't start until the 1960s. In fact, with exhibitions of current artists a mainstay of the gallery, the collections itself is still unfinished and continually evolving.
Housed in 4000 square metres of ex-industrial space in an area now pockmarked with art galleries, the museum (whose name is frequently shorted to MAMCO) has become a focal point for Geneva's artistic life. Admittedly, the sheer volume of work on show here can make the museum seem a little daunting, so consider taking the place in small doses.
