Located on Decatur Street, Tujague’s Restaurant is known for its delectable Creole cuisine and dishes since the mid 19th century. Unlike some of the other old timers, the restaurant is simple and relies on its history for charm and atmosphere. The bar area, a stand up cypress bar that has survived prohibition, is equally sparse and does not believe in frills. But it makes up with its signature cocktail called Grasshopper, invented by the restaurant owner in the 1920s. Made with green and white crème de menthe, heavy cream, cocoa cream, and brandy float, the cocktail is a heavy hitter and strong. Some of the other popular New Orleans cocktails like sazerac and vieux carre can also be had here.
