An intimate venue with an 'old music' vibe

While most of the city's live music venues cater to a more energetic crowd, The Basement turns the pace to cruise control with its ever-changing roster of great jazz, blues, soul and acoustic offerings.
With its cabaret-style tables and walls adorned with signed pictures from famed musicians, the venue has an intimate, 'New York jazz den' feel to it. Crucially for some, there's a good view of the stage from the bar. There's also an on-site Mediterranean-style bistro here, but it is a little pricey. Stick to happy hour (Mon-Fri: 4.30pm - 6.30pm).
