Planning a trip? Here’s how IMD’s latest weather forecast could affect your travel plans
Weather forecast
In the coming week, India will face a complete contrast in its weather pattern with heavy thundery showers forecast for its northeastern regions along with an increase in temperature throughout most parts of India, as per the weather report released by the India Meteorological Department on April 10, 2026, 07:49 PM.Forecast from April 11 till April 18 sees widespread showers in parts of Northeast India, along with the threat of heatwaves in central and eastern parts. In contrast, there will be no showers at all in Northwest parts of India, including New Delhi, with increasing temperatures each day.

Northeast expects widespread showers along with storms

States located in the Northeast India region are expected to see quite widespread to widespread showers along with thundershowers, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong gusts blowing up to speeds of 30-40 kilometers per hour. Weather activity would continue over Assam , Arunachal Pradesh, and Meghalaya from April 11 till April 14.Furthermore, thundershowers and lightning would hit areas like Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura on April 11.Such situations may cause localized disturbances such as waterlogging, poor visibility, and traffic problems. Eastern parts of the country may witness rains and gusty winds

There are predictions of scattered showers in the form of thunderstorms along with gusty winds that will occur in the regions of sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim from April 11 to April 12.The rest of eastern and central India will remain dry until the end of the forecast period, making way for warming up temperatures.

Steep hike in temperatures over various regions

There is a prediction of a steep rise in maximum temperatures in various regions over the next few days. According to IMD, there can be an increase of 6-8 degrees Celsius in Northwest India from April 10 till April 16, and an increase of 3-5 degrees Celsius in central India until April 14.Similarly, there is a likelihood that Eastern India would record a temperature rise by 5 to 7 degrees Celsius, which would make the region warmer than usual since this part of the country usually experiences extreme heat at this time of the year. Western parts of the country like Gujarat and Maharashtra, on the other hand, would face a modest increase in temperature by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius, and 2 to 3 degrees Celsius, respectively.

Heatwave situation in central and eastern India

There are heatwave alerts in isolated areas in Odisha between April 13 and 14 and in Chhattisgarh between April 14 and 16.Besides heatwaves, conditions of humidity and heat would occur in several eastern coastal regions of the country. Gangetic West Bengal would experience these conditions from April 13 to 15, whereas coastal Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and southern India, namely, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and parts of Karnataka, would witness high temperature accompanied by high humidity levels.

Delhi and northwest India to remain dry but heat up

For the people living in New Delhi and around the NCR area, there is some other news. The IMD has predicted a complete dry period for the next seven days without any sign of precipitation in the region. However, the dry spell will come with an increase in temperatures by up to 6-8 degrees Celsius in the next week. At the moment, nights in the region are colder than normal, but this change will make summers more prevalent in the region. The upcoming days will bring rains in Northeastern India, the western part of the Himalayan range, and even south India including Tamil Nadu. However, Central and Northwestern India will remain dry with increasing temperatures prevailing in the region. It is essential for the travelers in the region as well as the permanent residents to stay aware about the changing weather patterns.
