Last day of Holi festival: These states will be celebrating Rang Panchami today

Holi is not over yet, and for those who still wish to indulge in the festival of colours, here is the last chance to do so until next year.
According to Hindu calendar, Rang Panchami Holi is celebrated on the fifth day of Chaitra month in the waning phase of the moon. At several places in India, Holi festivities kick-off during Rangwali Holi and end on Rang Panchami.

What makes Rang Panchami special?

Traditionally, this festival is dedicated to holy deities. Legends abound how blowing colours in air on the day of Rang Panchami, positive energy is transmitted in the universe. It brings one in contact with the divine energies. From the societal point of view, Rang Panchami strengthens mutual harmony and brotherhood.
What also makes this festival significant is the lore that at the beginning of Tretayuga, Hindu deity Vishnu, had performed Dhuli Vandan (dust worship). By Dhuli Vandan, it refers that Vishnu began the work of taking different incarnations on earth for its welfare.

Where to witness Rang Panchami celebrations?

Rang Panchami is celebrated in Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. People play with colours, cook traditional delicacies such as Puran Poli, Maharashtrian dessert. In Rajasthan, special arrangements are made at the Jaisalmer Temple to organise cultural programs and traditional games with colours.


Whereas, in Madhya Pradesh, joyous celebrations are held. More so, the residents of Chanderi commemorate the arrival of Lord Rama to the city for a short duration on his return trip from the 14-year-old exile. People generally celebrate Rang Panchami with gulal, folk dance, music and gala festivities.
