As the second phase of lockdown in India is underway, Kerala takes a decisive step. The government in Kerala is lifting lockdown restrictions in order to restart certain economic activities. However, the centre is not too happy about the move and has written a letter to the state.
The new guidelines also state that bus travel in cities and towns for short distances (up to 60 km) will be permitted. For four-wheeler vehicles, only two persons will be allowed at the back.
The red zone districts in the state, which have been identified for the severity of the outbreak will, however, be under complete lockdown until May 3. These places include Kasaragod, Kannur, Kozhikode, and Malappuram districts. They will have only two entry and exit points for the movement of essential goods during this period of time.
The Kerala state government tourism ministry has said that the relaxations have been given in accordance with the rules laid out by the Centre, and there has been no dilution of the order given by the Ministry of Home Affairs. The state is completely committed to fighting the pandemic, and have made this decision keeping that in mind.
