Famous Matterhorn Mountain in Switzerland gets illuminated with Indian tricolour

Switzerland has shown its full support for India in the current challenging times when both Europe and India are reeling under the impact of Coronavirus. The solidarity was shown by projecting the national tricolour flag on the illustrious Matterhorn mountain in the Swiss Alps to offer strength to all the Indians in carrying on with their fight against the pandemic.

Gerry Hofstetter, Swiss light artist, is the man behind lighting up the 4478 m high mountain peak located between Switzerland and Italy. The projections have been lighting up the mountain every day since March 2020.

The tourism organisation Zermatt Matterhorn shared its concern for India’s battle against COVID-19 by writing an empathetic message.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also tweeted the picture of Indian tricolour with an encouraging caption.

Meanwhile, as per the statistics collected by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India has lost 519 lives by April 19 evening, and more than 16000 cases of infection have been reported in the country. On the other hand, about 35000 persons have died in the US alone. In India, the lockdown has been extended till May 3 as a measure to prevent more infections and flatten the growth curve of COVID-19 infections.
