Kerala Govt sets up ‘She Lodges’ to offer safe lodgings to women travellers

Kerala Government’s new initiative She Lodges will bring cheers to many solo women travellers travelling to the state. It implies women's’ only hostels to be set up in all parts of the state. And flagging of the initiative, the first She Lodge has been inaugurated recently in central Kerala, which is precisely located around 6 km outside Thrissur.
These staying accommodations for women will be maintained and managed by Kudumbashree, which is a network of 2.77 lakh women’s self-help group in Kerala. As per the latest news reports, the second such women-only lodge will be opened soon in Kanhangad. Further, Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam and Kollam will also have such lodges in the near future.

If latest reports are to go by, the said staying options will have a capacity to accommodate 50 travellers approximately and will come equipped with all facilities, such as dining halls, kitchen and offices. Also, to ensure the safety of women travellers, these hostels will be beefed up with security personnel and CCTV cameras.
There are numerous hotels around the world and India that cater to women travellers, but they do not receive state funding. Also, there are hostels that have been set up by the state governments around the country that cater to youth and working women, but till date, there have been no such option to help solo female travellers. In such a scenario, this initiative of She Lodges is looked upon as a step to bridge the gap by offering safe, secure and affordable staying facilities to female travellers.
