An artistic walk on the wild sideNoteworthy for: Intuit is dedicated to unsung outsider artists who created their work beyond the confines of the mainstream art world.
You won't find work by the cream of America's art schools at Intuit - in fact, that's the point of the place. Dedicated to self-taught and outsider artists, the center has been presenting its skewed but fascinating take on art history to Chicago since 1991.
The gallery mixes temporary loans with its growing permanent collection to hunt down names largely absent from the history books, displaying art that is by turns naive, intriguing, sophisticated, charming or plain odd.
Perhaps key among the exhibits is the former home studio of unique Chicago artist Henry Darger, transported here intact from Darger's old home in Lincoln Park. Offering insight into this visionary, once neglected artist's mind, it's also a reminder of how Darger's work is becoming a growing cult.
