Word to the toiletries: If you've got a thing for Molton Brown toiletries, you'll like the bathrooms here.

Noteworthy for: Handy for business travellers (or fans of linen), there's a steamer in the closet to smooth out suitcase-crumpled clothes.

Canadian outdoors-man meets Hollywood glamourpuss at The Loden, a 14-storey boutique sleep in Coal Town. Opened in 2008 in answer to Vancouver's brief drought of new luxury openings, the polished marble, mirror-speckled, earth-toned affair remains popular with both business types and travellers keen to make use of The Loden's proximity to both Stanley Park and the Downtown core.

Now standard among the city's better contemporary hotels, there's complimentary WiFi and cruiser bike rental, and each room is equipped with a yoga mat (and a yoga channel on the TV). Head next door for great French bistro fare at restaurant Tableau, and work it off in the 24hr fitness centre. There's no pool, but each room has a luxurious tub, and there's an in-house spa suite with the fat-zapping amenity du jour: an infrared sauna.
