A night of loneliness—spend a night inside Edward Hopper’s painting

Edward Hopper, known for his extraordinary paintings on hotels, motels, and diners has now something extraordinary to offer to travellers. Some Edward Hopper paintings will now come alive for guests as Richmond’s Virginia Museum of Fine Arts is ready to showcase an exhibition called Edward Hopper and the American Hotel on October 26, 2019.
The museum will exhibit more than 60 of his paintings, but the most interesting bit about this exhibition is the re-creation of Hopper’s Western Motel. The museum is creating a 3D figure of the painting, wherein you can explore and even sleep.

The Hopper Hotel Experience
The project is titled, The Hopper Hotel Experience, and is open for business from October 26, 2019 to February 23, 2020. The room is available on Friday, Saturday, and Monday evenings, and will cost you between $150 to $500, depending on the type of package. Some of the packages include dinner, and curator-led tours of the exhibition.

Hopper, who was known to depict alienation and loneliness through his art, is a major figure in the realist genre of art. Thus, one can expect some stark depiction of hotel life in America at this exhibition.

According to a statement by Dr. Leo G. Mazow, VMFA’s Louise B. and J. Harwood Cochrane Curator of American Art, “Edward Hopper is one of the best-known 20th-century American artists, yet the public’s conception of him has largely been filtered through a time-worn biographical formula that explains his art as the product of a sullen, isolated introvert.”

Tickets will go on sale from August 27, 2019.
