If Italian Renaissance painting is your thing, the Gallerie dell'Accademia is your place. Made up of three old churches on the south bank of the Grand Canal, comprising of 24 rooms in total, while they are not all open at the same time, whenever you come, you're guaranteed to see something special.

The show-stopper is probably Da Vinci's 'Vitruvian Man', but don't overlook works by Bellini, Canaletto and Tiepolo, Venice's most famous fresco painter. The Gallerie started life as a school of art and still attracts Venice's current creatives, who come here for inspiration, mainly on Saturday mornings.
