Located right in the middle of the frenetic Police Bazar, Trattoria enjoys a cult following among the locals who swear by its flavours. Trattoria’s specialty lies in the innovative preparation and presentation of local Khasi food. A very tiny establishment in terms of the area it covers, Trattoria is not the place to enjoy the ambience or spend a laid back evening. The place is always crowded and might result in some waiting time for your order but the wait is always worth it. Instead of a leisurely meal, you are most often than not, expected to simply go, place your order, eat your food and leave with satisfaction and a new experience!More like a canteen or a food stall, Trattoria may not have an elaborate menu to chose from but whatever they have, they know how to put those to best use. So brave the crowd and order some local hot favourites like Jadoh (red rice and pork, cooked together with ginger, onions and turmeric), Doh Iong (pork with black sesame curry) and Doh Khleh (pork salad). As it is evident, pork dishes are the most popular around here; but they also serve select vegetarian and chicken items. Enjoy the smoky flavour of your food mildly cooked with ginger or garlic, some chilly and a little oil. No matter if you are an exotic dining fan or a street food hunter; you need to visit this place at least once while vacationing in Shillong.
