Tibits

Tibits lives by three words—vegetarian, natural, seasonal—and while this modest Swiss chain is associated with Zurich-based Hilti (Europe's oldest vegetarian restaurant), it stays relevant by taking a young and modern approach to vegetarianism. Most diners who frequent this eatery gun straight for the generous buffet—referred to as a food boat, it stocks both hot and cold dishes—where you can pile up your plate (or container if you’re opting for take-away) and are charged by weight. Considering the location (Tibits occupies space in snooty Mayfair), it scores way lower on the pretentious scale as opposed to its snooty neighbours—which is probably part of the charm—and draws in diners by the hordes. There’s seating on the ground floor, an outdoor terrace (great for lunch when the weather allows), and a basement which is perfect in the evenings when the lights are dimmed and you can lounge and get through your meal. The fresh fruit juices and veggie concoctions are to die for, and although the dessert menu is minimal—you’ve only got to choose between the cheesecake and the sticky toffee pudding—you won’t mind the lack of options once you take your first bite.
