A lack of space for women in Yemen has led to the opening of a cafe run by women for women. The novel cafe is the brain-child of Um Feras, who wants to bring in a change in the attitude to women-led businesses. Thus, there now is a cafe run by women in Yemen that is also only for women.
She further explains that traditional attitudes in Yemen have led to working women being frowned upon. Hence, her newly-opened cafe is a strange place for many in the city.
Moreover, she explains that the word cafe can often have negative connotations. The new cafe is like an oasis in a desert, and can lead to more such cafes in the city. There is always opposition to every new idea anywhere in the world, but the idea now is to make it grow and stand its ground as a haven for women.
The coffee and drinks are mostly imported, and she likes to maintain the quality of them. But with rising prices and fluctuating currency rates, things are a little hard. But, as of now, Yemen has a thriving cafe that is run by women, and is only for women. Children are also permitted to enter.
