Owner of Yaoji Chaogan, Yao Yan told leading news daily that it partially shows people have been following in Joe Biden’s campaign.
Yaoji Chaogan (which means Yao's fried livers) excels at chaogan, a famous Beijing stew which is uses pork liver and intestines as the main ingredients. However, Biden and his team of five had ordered five plates of zha jiang mian (noodles with bean paste), shredded potatoes, 10 steamed buns, smashed cucumbers and mountain yam salads.
The owner also told the news website that he was not disappointed that Biden did not order Chaogan as it was the latter’s own will to order noodles with bean paste which is a traditional dish representing Beijing.
It was also reported that Biden apologized for hampering the fellow diners' meal and paid 100 yuan ($15) for a 79 yuan meal. He told the owner to keep the change as a tip and also a gesture to pay for the inconvenience caused.
Yaoji Chaogan's flagship 40-seat restaurant was founded three decades ago, and post Biden’s 2011 visit the owner opened a second brand in 2012. He runs three outlets now. The original branch is situated near the Chinese capital's historical Gulou (Drum Tower).
