Enter the foodie’s paradise – It was once the home to a grand theatre, Platea on Calle de Goya is now a gastronomic experience that attracts scores of tourists every day. With enough options for all those who want to either shop, eat, indulge, drink here, Platea has made itself a complete foodie’s paradise.Divided into five levels, each floor caters to a different mood and feel. At the basement is the food market with fresh vegetables, meat, bakery products, and a patisserie bar. The ground floor is probably the most vibrant, which sets the vibe of the place. Centred by a big stage, this floor is called El Patio, and has a running tapas bar and a few tables in between. It is buzzing with people who come here to socialise after their office hours. Overlooking the large stage is Arriba Restaurant on the next level; it serves Spanish food with modern twist, and is a good option for all those who prefer a sit down dinner. Further up is the El Palco which is the cocktail bar. The panoramic golden bar is quite the eye catcher here. And the last floor houses the club called El Club. This section is totally disconnected from the remaining building as it has an exclusive floor, which does not overlook the stage.
Visiting Platea can be a little overwhelming. To get a slice of the local food and drink, get a table at the tapas bar early in the evening. Drink Vermouth on the tap and pick the choicest of tapas for your plate, and indulge like a true Spaniard.
