Kerala’s Kozhikode (Calicut) is all set to get true to its moniker, the City of Spices. In a first in the state, Kozhikode will soon see an uber-swanky beach street food hub. As a city much loved for its cuisines and aromas, it is a hub for the most ardent of foodies.
The concept of having Kerala’s first street food beach hub is the brainchild of Kozhikode collector Seeram Sambasiva Rao. The project will also allow street food vendors with a license to operate in the hub. The new facility will stick to the guidelines laid by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). The interested vendors would also be trained on a number of aspects including hygiene, safe drinking water, waste disposal and other accepted guidelines.
The aim is to provide foodies with world-class eating facilities and develop more interest in the street food of the state, with a focus on city specialities. While news of the new facility has been welcomed by most, some of the locals believe that such a facility might take away the more colourful and diverse street food vibe of the city.
