Some restaurants offer a journey back in time with their flawless combination of design, music and flavours typical of a particular place and era. Jyran at Bandra Kurla Complex is definitely one of those. Right from the mellow classical music to the colourful shamiana style tables in the courtyard, everything about this exquisite Mughlai and North Indian restaurant spells 19th century Lucknow. The lamb dishes here are legendary, but then so are the decadent vegetarian concoctions such as potatoes with almonds and fresh pomegranate and kebabs made of hung yoghurt and fried cashew nuts. The restaurant overlooks a pool that comes alive at night with flaming earthen pots meant to symbolise all five elements—water, fire, earth, air and ether. A huge elephant crafted from waste materials stands tall in the far side of the pool. While food is served in the tastefully lit up indoor area, you can head outside for some drinks. Don’t miss the ‘tabakh jamun’ for dessert (huge jamuns stuffed with dry fruits and topped with honey). ‘Jyran’ literally means ‘lost love’ in Persian and an afternoon spent here might very well help retrieve some forgotten passions.
