Giang Cafe

Hanoi is famous for its egg coffee, locally called ca phe trung and Giang Café is arguably the best place to try it. Giang Café is hidden down a small lane on Nguyen Huu Huan Street in the city’s Old Quarter. It’s a little difficult to find at first but is worth the effort, not just for the coffee but also to experience the atmosphere of a true local Hanoi cafe.
The egg coffee recipe at Giang Cafe is almost exactly the same as it was when the café was founded back in 1946. The main ingredients include Vietnamese coffee powder, sweetened condensed milk, butter, cheese and egg yolk. It may sound strange but is surprisingly delicious and even tastes a little like Tiramisu. You can try the egg coffee hot or cold and with or without rum, there’s also egg cocoa too. Once you try the egg coffee don’t be surprised if one is not enough!
