In the hotly competitive ice cream truck market, the Big Gay Ice Cream Truck edges to the front of the pack. Why? Two words—caramelised bacon. That's just one of the high-end toppings offered by Doug Quint, a musician who launched this souped-up soft-serve truck with his boyfriend, Bryan Petroff, in June. The soft-serve is just regular vanilla and chocolate, but you can sprinkle it with such fanciful fare as wasabi pea dust, curried toasted coconut, sea salt, Nutella, pear butter or ginger syrup. Yep, Quint understands the joys of a sweet-and-savoury combo, and he's always featuring new toppings. Just ask him for the ‘Choinkwich’, a special concoction that's not on the menu—two chocolate cookies sandwiching chocolate ice cream and…you can probably guess.
