In Pune, Bedekars is by far the best known misal. What started out as a small tea stall serving snacks but became popular as a misal after which they haven’t looked back. But it’s not the classic Puneri style missal that they serve. There’s no phodniche pohe added at the bottom, and tarri also known as ‘sample’, is made from the base of the boiled matki water along with loads of veggies. In place of the usual pav that most places serve alongside, here you’re given bread slices. The misal in true Brahmin style has a slightly sweetish tinge and is not too spicy to bear, but it’s still pretty hot for someone with a low threshold for spice. Read less
