A sense of calmness and quietness prevails as you enter Zang Dhok Palri Phodang, which is also known as Durpin Monastery and Lava Monastery. Consecrated in 1976 by His Holiness the Dalai Lama, this largest monastery of Kalimpong houses the rare Kangyur text in 108 volumes which he brought from Tibet. Read less
A sense of calmness and quietness prevails as you enter Zang Dhok Palri Phodang, which is also known as Durpin Monastery and Lava Monastery. Consecrated in 1976 by His Holiness the Dalai Lama, this largest monastery of Kalimpong houses the rare Kangyur text in 108 volumes which he brought from Tibet. The monastery is quite popular for its three-dimensional appearance, majestic architecture and beautiful paintings.Perched at 1372 m on the peak of Durpin Hill, Zang Dhok Palri Phodang is also a wonderful place to enjoy spectacular views of the town and the surrounding forest with rich flora and fauna. If you are there on a clear day, spend time enjoying the beautiful sight of Mt Kanchenjunga.
Tip: Look for wall paintings and a rare three-dimensional mandala in the monastery.
