The tax to be imposed is likely to be around 10 dollars, which converts to INR 698, which is expected to generate around millions for the government. Authorities are planning to impose this tax to tackle the waste management issue, which as per the Bali Environment Agency is around 3500 tonnes a day. In short, the tax has been proposed in light of the region’s continuing battle against plastic waste that pollutes surrounding waters and beaches.
Governor Koster, referring to this development, said that Bali must serve as an example in the implementation of such a regulation, which will inevitably turn to be beneficial to both the tourists and region.
