Do visit the Vermillion Lake at dusk and dawn, and let me tell you why. Located just 5 minutes outside of town, the Vermillion lakes are a series of 3 lakes in the Bow River Valley beneath the Mount Norquay. Vermillion Lakes are a perfect mirror to Mount Rundle, who by the way gratifies its vanity by looking into its waters whole day, and its resultant reflection in its coy waters is a sight that men can’t replicate. Looking for a sudden reprieve from the hustle of the town, or a lazy evening spent bird-watching in its wetlands, or a stroll through the marshlands along the Fenland loop, this trio of lakes is a typical Banff feature. Do rent a Canoe at the Banff Canoe Club in town, paddle through the winding course of the Forty Mile Creek, finally into the diffident waters of the Vermillion Lake, the scene of marshlands and the mountainous terrain is far more exquisite when viewed sailing in there. Its shores are lined with artists gingerly setting up their tripods, for the moments captured here are worth their weight in gold.
