Tuting is a charming little town surrounded by dense forests and mountains, at a distance of close to 300 kms from district headquarters Yingkiyong in the Upper Siang district in Arunachal Pradesh. The triangle Gelling-Tuting-Singha constitutes the “Pemako Zone” of the Tibetan form of Buddhism with small hamlets of the lamas amidst serene natural lakes. The Gompas and Buddhist shrines have golden Buddha statues and other traditional artifacts of the Tibetan form of Buddhism. The Adi tribe people are the local inhabitants of this region and rear mithun and pigs in their backyards. They practice the indigenous worshipping of the sun and moon commonly referred to as Donyo-Polo. The houses are mainly dotted with hay and bamboo sticks and the kitchen cum dining area consists of an open fire sheath where cooking is done with the help of a metal pot support over the burning logs of wood. All the members of the family gather around that fire sheath and heavy banter goes on with copious amount of apong, the traditional millet beer made in homes. There is a hanging bridge known as “Ladung Bridge” on river Siang at the outskirts of this town which connects Tuting to the other small villages like Jedoh, Yukong, Kuking, Singha etc in the “Pemako zone”. There is also a beautiful monastery perched on a small hill top in the town with an added facility of a residential campus for the children following in the footsteps of lamas. Aaran is the principal festival of Adi tribe and is celebrated in the month of February.Refrain from posting comments that are obscene, defamatory or inflammatory, and do not indulge in personal attacks, name calling or inciting hatred against any community.
