Macron suggested that the European Union (EU) needs to close the Schengen area to visitors, and pointed out how this virus is spreading at different rates around the globe. He emphasised that opening the airports during summers will not only bring a second wave of the virus to Europe, but will also bring greater disaster to the region.
Of the 30 European countries in lockdown, four are not official members of the EU ― Norway, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, and Iceland. As of now, it is believed that these non-official members of the EU would also abide by an EU decision, and seal their borders until September.
