Vizag likely to get a floating restaurant as a bonus tourist attraction

Visakhapatnam might soon get a floating restaurant as an additional tourist attraction. The idea was proposed by Union Shipping Minister Nitin Gadkari during his recent visit to the city. To check feasibility of this project, the port city has even appointed officials. Cruise tourism and INS Viraat Museum have also been included in the proposal in a move to improve tourist footfalls in this region.
As per the news reports, the officials will be taking into consideration the models of other famous floating restaurants, such as Taj Lake Palace in Udaipur, Good Hotel in London, Resorts World in Singapore and Conrad in Maldives, to refer and conduct their feasibility check.

Referring to this development, PI Harinadh, Deputy Chairman of Visakhapatnam Port Trust, said, “We will seek an expression of interest to find out which successful floating restaurant model is best suited for Visakhapatnam. We have to study various options for the technical and financial viability of the project.”
Also, INS Viraat is the oldest war machine of Indian Navy, which is now all set to be transformed into a floating museum. Its location has not been decided yet; preliminary reports state that the museum might be set up either in Yarada or Bheemli Beach. Andhra Pradesh government is working on this project and is currently preparing a report to map out the cost estimates.
And regarding the cruise tourism, the project which was earlier withdrawn for a year after the fishermen objected to it, might soon get a new lease of life. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has now proposed to formulate plans to start cruise tourism between Visakhapatnam and Kakinada.

It is expected that these projects will certainly boost Vizag’s position in tourism circuit.
