Now, you can post letters to your dear ones from Mount Kailash

If you have plans in mind to visit Mount Kailash but the thought of connectivity issues scares you, leave aside your worries. A post office has recently been opened at the foot of Mount Kailash in Tibet’s autonomous region to facilitate visitors. This will surely fizzle out all your concerns and help you send letters even when you are at such an altitude.
The post office has been set up in Ngari prefecture’s Burang county, i.e., more than 1200 km from the main city, Lhasa. Gyime Wangchuk, who is the head of Ngari’s tourism development commission, said “It is the first big post office, with more functions and better services.” He also added that this development will allow tourists visiting Mount Kailash and Mansarovar Lake to send postcards to their family and loved ones.

Referring to this development, the deputy manager of the post office said, “We will create more ecological tourism products so visitors can mail them out via the post office”. Apart from offering mailing service, the post office will also provide a range of services, which will let you buy Tibetan ethnic products and souvenirs.
The deputy manager further added, “We hope the post office will help to make Ngari more known to the outside world, and it will help to promote the prefecture's tourism and cultural development”.
Ngari is popularly known as the top of the ‘roof of the world’; it lies at the junction of mighty Gangdise, Kunlun, and Himalayan mountain ranges. The prefecture gives a glimpse of Tibet’s rich culture and history, which naturally attracts thousands of pilgrims from around the world every year.
