In an effort to encourage sustainable travel, Air New Zealand will start serving vanilla-flavoured edible cups, which will translate to producing minimal waste. It is an attempt by the airline to eliminate the waste generated by the eight million disposable cups that the carrier generates every year. Read less
Also, as per the latest news reports, the airline had been serving coffee in biodegradable containers, have now partnered with domestic company Twiice to produce such edible cups. The airline, after introducing such cups, tweeted, “Who’s eating their cup once they’ve finished what’s inside?”
In a statement, the airline said that the coffee cups were being tested in the air and on the ground to ensure minimal waste is generated. Referring to this, a staff member from the airline mentioned that the cups not only retains warmth, but a user will also be able to eat it once they finish the coffee. The said coffee cups are leak-proof and vanilla flavoured.
As per the latest update, the airline has mentioned that these edible cups will continue to be available during trial on all flights.
