A palace that came into existence way back in 1636 AD by Kind Thirumalai Nayak, this palace is a great place of attraction for travellers coming here to see the glory of Madurai. Being a fusion of Dravidian and Rajput styles of architectures, the palace has found a place of pride in the history of Tamil Nadu. The palace is open for public visits, and also is a source of entertainment here. You can enjoy Light and Sounds shows here, which depicts the story of Silappathikaram, and this is narrated both in Tamil and English languages every evening. The palace is located 1.2 km south of the famed Meenakshi Amman Temple, so you could choose to visit both these places on the same day. A definitive tourist place in Madurai, the Thirumalai Nayakkar Mahal is by far one of the most glorious buildings of Madurai that deserves a mention.
