Sri Venkateswara Zoological Park

Travelling to Tirupati with kids can be challenging, especially when there is little at the temple to interest them. There is however, more to the temple town than just temples, and lots more to keep kids engaged. One of these is the zoo. The zoo at the foothills of Tirupati is one of the biggest in India, spread over 5500 acres. It is not an exotic zoo, with animals from across the world but it is a good one. Since it is huge, and small vehicles are allowed inside. There are also a few vehicles at the entrance that can be hired for senior citizens.
The zoo is based around the theme of Hindu mythology. Apart from factual information about the animals/birds/reptiles, there is additional information about their role in mythology. As far as I know, this is the only zoo based on such a theme. Within the zoo, efforts have been made to replicate the normal environment for the animals by preserving the natural surroundings. You can also see a variety of birds in the open too. The zoo is managed by the forest department, and there is also a small shop inside selling local art and crafts. This is one of the best places in Tirupati to let children have a good time too!

Additional information: Sri Venkateswara Zoological Park is about 12 km from the bus stand. Zoo remains closed for visitors on every Monday, but remains open on Mondays too if it is a general holiday or a festive day.
