Chennai’s Puratchi Thalaivar Dr MG Ramachandran Central Railway station, also known as the Chennai Central by the citizens of Tamil Nadu, has lost the contest to be the World’s Longest Railway Station Name.
Interestingly, Puratchi Thalaivar Dr MG Ramachandran was a former Chief Minister and an actor from Tamil Nadu who died in the year 1987. It was after him that the Chennai Central station was renamed on April 5, 2019.
After Chennai Central, it is the Krantivira Sangolli Rayanna Bengaluru City aka Bengaluru Station; the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus train station or CST are the railway station in India having a surprisingly lengthy name.
As for the station in Wales that won the title, it is also called Llanfairpwllgwyngyll or Llanfair Pwllgwyngyll in its short form by the locals. It is a village located on the island of Anglesey in Wales, Britain. It also has its name in the Guinness Book of Records for being the destination with the longest name in the UK. The name of the village translates into “Saint Mary's Church in the hollow of white hazel close to a rapid whirlpool as well as the Church of Saint Tysilio near the red cave.”
It is believed that the name Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch was given by a cobbler from Menai Bridge.
