Spring destinations in Kashmir that will leave you speechless
We all love snow, but after the prolonged white cover, the heart and soul longs for lush greenery. Kashmir valley turns into stunning green grasslands with wildflowers, and the rivers are no longer frozen. And lucky for us, there are several places in the valley that are worth travelling for in the spring season. Here are some of the most scenic spring destinations in Kashmir.
Srinagar
Srinagar, the heart of Kashmir, is at its most beautiful in spring. The famous Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden bursts into a riot of colors with thousands of tulips in bloom. This year, the annual Tulip Festival will be held in Srinagar from March 15 to April 20. Mughal gardens like Shalimar Bagh, Nishat Bagh, and Chashme Shahi are also must-visits.
Pahalgam
Pahalgam is one of the most beautiful destinations in India, and its lush valleys and rivers look breathtaking in spring. Betaab Valley is a must-visit, as it gets covered in blooming wildflowers. Aru Valley offers stunning views of melting snow and fresh greenery. Lidder River is a stunning addition to the scenery
Gulmarg
Gulmarg, known for its winter skiing, is equally stunning in spring. The meadows start turning green with patches of snow still visible, and Alpather Lake is at its scenic best. The Gulmarg Biosphere Reserve is full of blossoming flowers. Go for the iconic Gondola ride to enjoy the mesmerizing views of the valley.
Yusmarg
Yusmarg is blissfully less crowded than other destinations in Kashmir, and therefore, as pristine as they come. Yusmarg is a peaceful meadow with panoramic views of the Pir Panjal range. Spring brings out colorful wildflowers, and the Doodhganga River flowing through the valley makes it picture-perfect. The region is perfect for short treks.
Sonmarg
Sonmarg is breathtaking in spring as the glaciers start melting, revealing lush green meadows with blooming flowers. The Thajiwas Glacier, accessible via a pony ride or trek, offers a mix of snow and greenery. The Sindh River, flowing through the valley, enhances the natural beauty.
Lolab Valley
Lolab Valley, often called “Kashmir’s Fruit Bowl,” is filled with apple, cherry, and peach blossoms in spring. Surrounded by dense forests and rolling meadows, it’s an offbeat yet stunning springtime destination
Gurez Valley
Gurez Valley, near the Line of Control (LoC), remains cut off in winter but opens up in spring, revealing mesmerizing landscapes. The Kishanganga River, terraced fields, and wooden houses make it one of Kashmir’s most scenic places.
