The world has always been fascinated towards spicy and aromatic Indian food to satiate their taste buds. Hence, a visit to Kerala definitely demands a visit to a spice garden too. There are many spice gardens in and around Thekkady, and you can choose to visit anyone, but I would strongly recommend visiting Abraham’s Spice Garden mainly because they execute their garden tour in a very organized and an informative way. We felt a little more intelligent after they showed us the whole process of preparing peppercorns and coffee beans from their respective plantations. We could not control our joy upon seeing the green cardamom plantation. Before this day, I had no idea about an Ayurvedic plant known as Stevia, which is a natural sweetener and hence, widely used for diabetic patients. We tasted as many spices and herbs as we could and not to mention that the experience of feeling them fresh is out of this world. The tour guide from Abraham’s garden also made us privy to some unique ways to identify the plantations such as crushing the leaves and smelling them. The guides also told us about a few healthy Ayurvedic tea and coffee recipes. It is very rare that we get such immense practical knowledge in such limited time and hence, I strongly urge you to visit a spice garden.
