Located at a distance of just over 100 kms from Guwahati, Shillong is the first place that you should visit if you want a weekend getaway from the hustle bustle of city travelling. Either board a bus or hire a cab, you will always cherish the ride from Guwahati to Shillong amid stunning landscapes and serpentine roads. If you are a nature lover, an adventure junkie, a culture trail walker or most of all, a music aficionado; Shillong has something for everyone! This tiny town deserves special mention for the large scale music concerts it has hosted in recent times, something that even some large metros cannot dream of hosting! Shillong is gradually acquiring the reputation of a town that is culturally rich and offers a unique set of experiences to those who seek. Mother Nature is at her mischievous best here with rains and rays walking together, the outskirts of Shillong offer almost virgin treks and yeah, there are places where you can unwind and get high-spirited! Not to mention Shillong’s colonial touch, thanks to the town’s tenure as the administrative headquarters of undivided Assam till 1972. Go for an evening walk at the Shillong Peak, photo ops are available aplenty in Elephant Falls, relish luxury in the Shillong Golf Course (world’s wettest golf course and one of the largest in Asia) and collect souvenirs in Police Bazar. Shillong has a good number of hotels ranging from budget ones to the luxury resorts; so accommodation is taken care of; all you need to do is–just have fun!
