Hindon Airport in Ghaziabad launches its first commercial flight to Pithoragarh

The much-awaited Hindon Airport in Ghaziabad is now operational for commercial flights. According to the news reports, King Air 350 recently flew from the newly made civil terminal of the Hindon air force base to Pithoragarh in Uttarakhand with passengers from the NCR region. The flight landed at the Naini Saini Airport at around 1:40 PM.
Reportedly, the 9-seater aircraft operated by Heritage Aviation was packed to full capacity. It took only an hour for the flight to reach its destination in comparison to the long journey, which lasts for a minimum of 16 hours by road. Being a flight run under the UDAN scheme that offers regional air connectivity at subsidised prices, the fare for one way trip from Hindon to Pithoragarh cost INR 2500.

The first commercial flight has received such a hearty welcome from the general public that the Airports Authority of India (AAI) is planning to invite big players like SpiceJet, IndiGo and Alliance Air for a meeting to start their operations from Hindon Airport as well.


As per the news reports, to flag off the first commercial flight from the newly-opened air terminal, a lot of dignitaries and VIP officials were present including Uttarakhand CM Trivendra Singh Rawat and Union Minister Gen VK Singh (retd), the Ghaziabad MP.

There are eight check-in counters, four security check booth and four X-ray machines at the Hindon Airport. The UP police are taking care of the security arrangements.

The Hindon airport is NCR’s second airport after the IGI Airport in Delhi. The main road is 1.5 km from the terminal.
