Rumah Penghulu Abu Seman

Step inside a traditional Malay home
Noteworthy for: The house used to belong to a village chief.

This beautifully restored wooden building is one of the few traditional Malay houses in KL open to visitors. Originally built in the northern state of Kedah, and dating back to the 1920s, the home was moved piece by piece to the capital city and restored to its original condition. It now sits in the grounds of the Heritage of Malaysia Trust (Badan Warisan Malaysia), in striking contrast with the modern metropolis around it.
Guided tours of the house are brief—this is not a mansion, after all—but they nonetheless offer an intriguing look at domestic life in the early part of the last century, and offer visitors a chance to get up-close to the home's ornate carvings.
