Rohtang La or Rohtang Pass, located just about 50 km from the popular tourist destination Manali, is like an outstation picnic spot from there. It remains open from May/June to almost October. Geographically, it falls in the Pir Panjal Range of the Himalayas and stands at a height of more than 13000 feet from mean sea level. It connects Kullu Valley to the beautiful valleys of Lahaul and Spiti. Passing through Rohtang Pass is like passing through a city of glaciers. Roads are obviously cleared by cutting glaciers. Tourists can be seen playing with the snow all around. For people living in the plains, away from the mountains, this is a good place to see snow. Rohtang Pass is closed for tourists on Tuesdays so plan your trip accordingly. You can however explore Rohtang Pass on Tuesdays only if you are coming from Lahaul-Spiti side. There are many places like Rani Nallah on the way to Rohtang Pass that give you a glimpse of how this place must be during winters—with only snow visible till you can see.
