Movie: Withnail and I (Dir: Bruce Robinson, 1987)
The rain is falling heavily in Regent's Park, the sky is grey, wolves prowl in their enclosure and a murky haze floods the screen. This is the stage where the two actors say their last goodbye; Paul McGann heads for the train, and a sad, dejected Withnail swaps his ramblings for a poignant moment of clarity, quoting a passage from Hamlet. Fuelled by Uncle Monty's finest bottle and framed by one of London's iconic sites, it seems as if Richard E Grant's delivery is a farewell to the bohemian English dream. The wolves have long since gone and you certainly can't buy two quadruple whiskeys for eight pounds anymore, but walk up this winding path at the top of Regent's Park and things may change. Grab onto the railings, throw your unkempt head of hair into the wind and demand the finest wines known to humanity brought to you here and now.
