In July 2008, Margao got itself a swanky new landmark as Ravindra Bhavan was inaugurated. Built over a sprawling campus, it serves as the nerve center of cultural activities in the Salcete Taluka and also hosts events of national and international significance. Goa's very own Siri Fort Auditorium, this multi-storeyed building sports an auditorium, conference halls and rehearsals, foyer areas on ground and first floors, a huge courtyard with a fountain in the front and an open ground in the back. The auditorium is named after Pai Tiatrist Joao Agostinho Fernandes, Goa's famous actor, playwright and doyen of Konkani tiatr (theater), who has launched many known faces in the region.Today, Ravindra Bhavan hosts a variety of events in Konkani, Marathi, Hindi, English and other languages, including the dahi handi festival, dandiya festivals, Swami Vivekananda Jayanti celebrations, umbrella painting competition, sufi qawwali or ghazal performances, magic festivals and numerous workshops on diverse topics such as aero modeling, carol singing, animation, theater and much more. While in Margao, make sure to drive to its buzzing suburb of Fatorda and stop by this hub. You might catch up on a Konkani or Hindi play or kids may stumble upon a telescope event. Though within Margao, the best way to do this site is to club it with a tour or a nearby place such as Loutolim, interior Salcete.
