Rain lashes part of Delhi-NCR; hailstorm expected in the region

Light to moderate rainfall on Tuesday and Wednesday morning took Delhiites by surprise; the sudden change in weather is expected to see a drop in temperature as well. As per the predictions by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the surrounding region including the capital, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and parts of Rajasthan will also experience rainfall. The trend will continue until Thursday.

Delhi’s temperature read a minimum of 12 degrees and a maximum of 19 degrees Celsius. While the daytime reading for Tuesday’s temperature was four degrees above the normal of 11.6 degrees Celsius, the mercury plummeted with light showers in the evening.

Those in and around Delhi can also expect hailstorms, accompanied by rain, as per the reports by IMD. The current weather conditions have also led to snowfall in the neighbouring state of Uttarakhand, including the popular hill station, Mussoorie. A western disturbance over Pakistan and around is considered to have caused the current weather conditions. The same has also induced cyclonic disturbance over Rajasthan and around.

It is expected that the minimum temperature would hover between 5 to 6 degrees Celsius over the weekend.
